The Centre For Disability Rights and Studies
The NLUT Centre for Disability Rights and Studies was established with the objective of advocating for disability rights and social justice through the enhancement of pedagogy and scholarly inquiry within the interdisciplinary domains of sociology, social work, law, and policy. By means of curriculum innovation, research initiatives, and the advancement of disability studies, the Centre aspires to make a substantive contribution to the fields of disability and human rights, disability and society, accessibility and reasonable accommodations, inclusive education, gender, and disability, among others. The Centre aims to cultivate an environment that guarantees the integration and equitable participation of students with disabilities within the University. Furthermore, the Centre will convene academicians, researchers, scholars, legal practitioners, activists, students, and various stakeholders to promote discourse on the growing significance of disability studies and research.
VISION
The overarching objective of the NLU Centre for Disability Rights and Studies is to promote the entitlements of individuals with disabilities through the implementation of educational initiatives, scholarly research, comprehensive training, and capacity enhancement programs, thereby establishing itself as a preeminent nodal Centre for Excellence within the domain of Disability Studies.
MANDATE
- To focus on issues and concerns of people with disabilities spread awareness and arrive at solutions through teaching, research, and training, thereby enhancing an equitable and just society with equal opportunities, full participation, and protection of dignity and rights of persons with disabilities.
- To develop, encourage, and conduct innovative approaches and policies for education, training, and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
- To develop a network of academicians, researchers, activists, Lawyers, and other professionals to work in close agreement on a cohesive environment for the overall development of persons with disabilities.
